THE 400 CLUB
The Guildford Waterside Centre is home to a number of organisations, including, of course, Wey Kayak Club. The Guildford Waterside Centre “400 Club” raises funds to help pay off loans, maintenance, future enlargement and development of the centre.
Planning permission was granted to redevelop in March 2014, building finishing in 2016.
Please join the GWC 400 Club now and support the facilities that we all use and be in with a chance of winning £50 every month. Join before 14 December and you stand a chance of winning the Bonus Draw of £200 at the WKC Commodore’s Christmas Dinner, plus there will also be the usual £50 monthly draw. Each ‘ticket’ cost just £2.00 a month (£24 per year) and can be paid for by monthly Standing Order if more convenient. KITCHEN – Bacon Rolls & Tea = £££s
Any profit from the food and drink provided by the Club at the weekend and Thursday night club nights, goes towards maintaining club equipment. Please make sure you take advantage of this wonderful facility. Mums, Dads and Grandparents are all welcome to join the paddlers. If you are a Mum, Dad or Grandparent and you would like to offer a bit of help in the kitchen, that would be wonderful.
We try to take it in turns, but extra helpers are always needed so please make enquiries at the kitchen.
GUILDFORD RAFT RACE – July
The Wey Kayak Club is looking for keen and willing people to build and enter the raft race. Every year there is a different theme, eg Olympics, Walt Disney etc. Fancy dress and raft decoration compulsory!
The reason why we need you to take part is to generate funding for new club equipment and running costs, so please if you can take part, or if your company can sponsor a team, then please get in touch.
We last entered in 2012 and won 7 trophies, including the “fastest raft”, “best dressed raft” and “best women’s raft”. No one from our club has managed to enter since 2012 due to clashes with race dates.
If you are interested, the Kayak Club has a selection of plastic barrels, rope, wood and bits and pieces to help you build your ideal craft and there is also a short video that we can show you with examples of what works and what doesn’t! Ask Sonja Freebody or Dave Kitchin for more details.
The race starts from Millmead Lock (Debenhams) at approximately 3pm and finishes at the WKC roundabout 4pm. Burgers and drinks available at WKC for spectators and competitors. Presentation trophy ceremony for winners. Please note, paddlers will be targeted with water pistols etc by spectators along the route and paddlers can also fire back. Great fun!
Full details and the date will be published on the Guildford Lions Website at Guildford Raft Race
Good team building, fun for kids and adults alike!
